The brief that I have chosen to do along side the Turner Contemporary brief, is part 2, which is:
Undertake any small typographic project that you think will show of your skills. You make use imagery but typography must be the significant part.
This could be anything you choose, such as; a simple layout, set a poem or lyric, a typographic poster, a logo.
-----------------------
I have looked online for some inspiration and I have come across a site called: http://www.lyricsandtype.com/index.php?id=1 which has typography set using a lyric. From this site you can go to other artists and designers, I searched my way through some of these designers and looked mainly at their typography work.

By looking through them, I found this piece of work which I thought was really clever and I like the colour scheme. The combination of illustration with the text I really liked and as I have used illustration in the past with a project, I found I enjoyed combining the two.

This poster I quite liked the childish nature of it. It was like it should be placed in a nursery but I really liked the design around the words.
For this project, I know that the main feature is going to the the typography, but I want to include a little illustration to combine it all together, I think this will keep it in my style.

I have been looking alot into the quote or lyric that I could use, as I think this is a big part of the piece.
A few that I found are found from diarys, online and from films that I watch and hear things.
- 'Tea to the English is really a picnic indoors' Alice Walker
- 'Finding the perfect typeface is like finding true love, discouraging when you don't, sublime when you do.' Unknown
- 'I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each' T. S. Eliot
- 'To be married to a wife who can set type is happiness indeed' Walter Tracy
- 'Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore' Judy Garland (Dorothy Gale)
- 'Coffee should be black as hell, strong as death and as sweet as love.' Turkish proverb
- 'Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out' What a girl wants
- 'Don't forget - I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her' Notting Hill
- 'Forever is a long time and time has a way of changing' The Fox and the Hound
- 'Did you know that dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish?' from www.onelinerz.net

I have found a site that has made posters using quotes from movies.
I found this piece of work on Pinterest. I was looking through a number of design boards that have been posted by people around the world from different design backgrounds. I think although that this isn't they style of design I would personally make, I think that they way the type has been set and the typeface that has been used is fitting to the theme and the words which it says. I usually go for a plain and simple white background with my work but I think that the black photograph background works really well. It gives me a few ideas and has inspired me, maybe not as such for this project, but for future reference, I know that this kind of imagery can work so well as a background.
This poster caught my eye because of the style of typeface that they have used. I think that it works really well with the plain white background. I really like the imagery that has been used around the edge, I think that it gives the piece a lot of character and makes me think of a circus.

The Dark Knight, 2008
Although the text in this poster isn't the most prominent part, I really liked the colour and the way that the image has been set. The way the text also has been set is really simple and interesting and fits in perfectly with the style of the piece as a whole.

What I liked about this poster was that part of the text was the first thing you see, the part that people could possibly relate to more rather than the whole quote. I'm not so keen on the background (screwed up paper) but I think the simplicty theme, black white and grey works really well. I am going to relate this in my piece.

With this piece, I really like the way that the illustration and the text has the same amount of viewing. I feel that it all has equal amounts of attention when I first looked at this. My brief is to make the text the most important part on the page, so with this I am going to experikent with my own illustration but as a style I am more simple with designing, and hand-drawn.
